Patty Duke (1946 - )
American child actress, born in New York, as Anna
Marie Duke. Patty Duke was married to actor John
Astin. She is now happily married to Michael Pearce.
She suffered with Manic-Depression, but now has
it under control. Patty Duke wrote a book about
the illness, "A Brilliant Madness: Living with
Manic-Depressive Illness."
Then 14, Patty Duke became the youngest person
to win an Oscar in competition with adults. It
was also her first movie. She was the youngest
person to have a TV show named after her, at age
16.
Her THE MIRACLE WORKER co-star, Anne Bancroft,
won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft first played their
roles on Broadway.
