Renee Zellweger
(1969 - )
Renee Zellweger was born on April 25th, the
daughter of an Australia-raised, Swiss-born
engineer, Emil Zellweger and a Norwegian born
mother, Kjellfrid Zellweger, who was trained
as a nurse and midwife. Her parents raised Renee
and her big brother, Drew in a small, Texas
town, Katy, where they spent their childhood
and teen years. Renee discovered acting while
in high school, becoming an active member of
her high school acting club. Renee was further
smitten by the acting bug after taking an acting
class from The University of Austin.
Upon graduating from The University of Austin
with a degree in English, Renee Zellweger decided
to pursue her acting dream. Instead of going
to Hollywood where it is real hard to break
into the business, she auditioned for acting
gigs offered around Houston and actually got
some roles in such gems as REALITY BITES, EMPIRE
RECORDS and LOVE AND A .45, a film where she
was noticed by critics and greatly encouraged.
Renee moved to Los Angeles, and started working
there too. Her performance in THE WHOLE WIDE
WORLD was noticed by Hollywood bigwig Cameron
Crowe, who auditioned and hired her to be in
JERRY MAGUIRE.
Two years later, she landed a plumb role in
ONE TRUE THING, and then went on to win a role
in ME, MYSELF & IRENE, opposite of Jim Carrey.
From there, her career just got better and better.
Her starring performance in NURSE BETTY earned
her a Golden Globe for Best Actress. She was
on a roll!! In her next film she again was the
leading lady in BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, which
was a huge hit at the box office.
In CHICAGO, Renee proved what a trooper she
was and just how dedicated she was to her profession.
Because she had never had any voice or dance
training, she went through 10 months of intensive
vocal coaching and dance routine, until she
was skilled and professional.
