Charles Coburn (1877 - 1961)
Savannah-born American actor who was known for playing
gruff but loveable cigar smoking characters. In 1918
Charles Coburn and his first wife formed the Coburn
Players which preformed on broadway until her death
in 1937. It was then that Charles Coburn signed a hollywsood
contract and stared making films at the age of sixty.
He continued workingin pictures until his death in 1961.
One of Charles Coburn's more memorable roles is that
of Marilyn Monroe's aged suitor, Sir Francis Beekman,
in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes".
