John Wayne was an extremely
popular star, with an astonishingly long and successful
screen career. Know mostly as a Western star, John Wayne
had an image as a hard punching, straight shooting cowboy,
who sat high in the saddle. It is possible he eventually
confused his screen image with his real self, though the
difference between the two may always have been negligible.

a one-eyed sheriff in TRUE
GRIT for which he received the Best
Actor Oscar.
