Vanessa Redgrave was born on January 30, 1937 in London, England. She is a British leading lady, daughter of actor Sir Michael Redgrave and sister of actress Lynn Redgrave.

Sometimes Vanessa Redgrave is credited as Vanessa Redgreiv.

In her first major theatrical role, A Touch of the Sun (1958), Vanessa Redgrave played the daughter of a school headmaster who was played by her own father. In 1958, Vanessa Redgrave made her screen debut in Behind the Mask.

Vanessa Redgrave and her sister, Lynn Redgrave, were both nominated for the 1967 Best Actress Academy Award. Vanessa was nominated for Morgan: A Suitable Case For Treatment (1966), and Lynn was nominated for Georgy Girl (1966). They both lost to Elizabeth Taylor, who won for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
