Terry Jones was born on February 1, 1942, in Colwyn Bay, Wales. His nickname is Jonesy.

His Welsh father was a bank clerk and Terry Jones' English mother was mistress of the house. He has an older brother, Niguel Jones.

Alison Telfer married Terry Jones in 1970, and they have two children.

Terry Jones has a mild speech impediment and has trouble pronouncing his letter "r".

He studied at St. Edmund Hall College, Oxford University, where he earned a degree.
