Shelley Duvall was born on July 7, 1949 in Houston, Texas.
In 1970 Duvall was "discovered" by Robert Altman while selling
cosmetics at Foley's in Northwest Mall in Houston. He was in
Houston to direct BREWSTER MCCLOUD and Altman gave her a small
role.
Altman gave Duvall her greatest role as a pathetic spa physiotherapist
in 3 WOMEN in 1977 the director encouraged her to invent much
of her own dialogue, and the performance earned her a Best Actress
Award at Cannes Shelley Duvall was the host of FAERIE TALE THEATRE
and played the character of Rapunzel in RAPUNZEL and the part
of the Miller's daughter in RUMPERLSTILTSKIN.
In 1989 Duvall executive-produced the cable-TV remake of DINNER
AT EIGHT. Shelley Duvall has concentrated on a producing career,
committing herself to the creation of high-quality children's
entertainment for cable TV and home video. Persuading top stars
to appear in these productions, by using her show business connections.
Duvall has won praise and numerous awards for such series as
FAERIE TALE THEATRE, SHELLEY DUVALL'S TALL TALES and SHELLEY
DUVALL'S BEDTIME STORIES and the special MOTHER GOOSE ROCK N'
RHYME, produced through her own companies Platypus Productions
and Think Entertainment. In 1997 Shelley was the guest of honor
at the International Children's Film Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada.
