About Reese Witherspoon (1976 – )

Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father was Dr. John Witherspoon, a military surgeon, specializing in ear, nose and throat ailments. Her mother was a nurse, who earned her PHD in pediatric nursing.

One of Reese Witherspoon ancestors is none other than John Witherspoon – one of the famed men who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon is Reese Witherspoon's birth name.

At age 7, Reese began modeling.

Playing a tomboy would be Reese Witherspoon first major role, in the Robert Mulligan's movie The Man In The Moon, in 1990, at the age of 14.

After graduating from high school, Reese planned to attend Stanford University, she quit college when she was offered roles in Fear and Freeway.

In 1998, Reese Witherspoon shone in a pleasant hit, Pleasantville. Reese Witherspoon plays a character, Jennifer, who was zapped into the past through the television. Jennifer, the young woman, was able to change her life and become someone during the course of this film.

Reese Witherspoon married Ryan Phillippe, on June 5, 1999. They divorced on June 13, 2008. They have two children. Trying to keep names in the family Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe named their daughter, Ava, after Ryan's grandmother. Their son is named after the former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Deacon Phillippe, who is a distant relative of her ex-husband Ryan's.

In 1999, Reese Witherspoon and her husband Ryan Phillippe worked together in the movie Cruel Intentions.

After the September 11th attacks, Reese Witherspoon was the first person to host Saturday Night Live.

In high school, Reese Witherspoon had an extra credit project where she worked as an office production assistant for the film Devil In A Blue Dress for director Carl Franklin. Franklin would later feature her in Legally Blonde (2001) and Out Of Time.

Witherspoon would follow up that success in the sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. She was also the executive producer.

In 2004 Reese Witherspoon was named "Favorite Female Film Star" by People Magazine.

It seems to be fate for Reese Witherspoon to sing, appearing in three movies to date bearing the name of hit songs, including: Sweet Home Alabama, Just Like Heaven and the most recent, Walk The Line, in which we actually heard Reese Witherspoon singing.

After tuning her vocal cords in Walk The Line, Reese Witherspoon surprised her husband with a special Christmas gift, recording two of his favorite Frank Sinatra tunes: I've Got a Crush on You and The Best Is Yet to Come.

With Debra Siegal, Reese Witherspoon runs a production company called Type A Films. They have recently moved the Production Company to Universal Pictures, and signed a two-year first-look production pact with Universal. It has been reported that Universal has already picked up a romantic comedy called Sports Widow for Reese to star in and produce.
