Red Buttons (1919 - )
Born in New York, this American vaudeville and TV
comic captured strong supporting roles. Started
his career working in burlesque and in the resorts
in the catskills. It was there that he got the name
Red Buttons, for he had red hair and a uniform which
had 48 buttons.His real name was Aaron Chwatt.
Red Buttons made his way to broadway and then
made his film debut in 1944 recreating his stage
role in Winged Victory. In 1952 he starred
in a variety show which made him an instant star
even though the show only ran for three years. Red
Buttons was not only a talented comic, but he was
also a composer, (having several hit songs), a writer
and he proved his acting skills again and again
in many supporting roles in all sorts of films.
