Louise Fletcher won her Best Actress Oscar for her performance as the saccharine, controlling Nurse Ratched, who is locked in a struggle for dominance in a psychiatric ward with the trouble-making nonconformist patient Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson).

About Louise Fletcher (1936 – )
Louise Fletcher is an American character actress who began her career in 1958, guest starring on television series such as Bat Masterson, The Untouchables, Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, The Millionaire, and Perry Mason. After a 10-year maternity break, she began working in films, with Robert Altman's Thieves Like Us.

She was then cast as the controlling, psychiatric Nurse Ratched, in the 1975 movie adaptation of Ken Kesey's One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest. She played opposite Jack Nicholson's Randle Patrick McMurphy, a non-conforming con man who gets himself transferred to the "easy life" of a mental hospital and meets his match in the controlling schemes of Nurse Ratched. She won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance.

Fletcher played a scientist who invents a way of playing back actual experiences, in the 1983 sci-fi movie, Brainstorm, with Natalie Wood and Christopher Walken. She played a wicked grandmother in Flowers In The Attic, in 1987.

Louise Fletcher was nominated for an Emmy for her recurring role on Picket Fences (1992). She also played Kai Winn in 14 episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993).
