Lori Singer was born on November 6, 1957 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She weighed four pounds at birth. Her twin brother was born three minutes later. Jacques Singer, Lori's father was a symphony conductor and her mother, Leslie was a concert pianist.
Growing up in Texas and Portland, Vancouver, Lori Singer always wanted to become a dancer. At the young age of 12, she fell in love with the cello. At the age of 14, Lori was accepted to the Juilliard Performing Arts School in New York where she majored in music.
One year after enrolling in the Performing Arts School, Lori Singer had her first debut as a soloist with the Western Washington Symphony.
In 1980, Lori Singer won the Bergen Philharmonic Competion. In 1981, Lori Singer married Richard Emery but were later divorced in 1998. They had a son names Jacques Rio in 1991.
Lori Singer also pursued a successful modeling career with the Elite Model Agency.
The very talented Lori Singer began taking acting lessons at the age of 17. In 1982, she was cast in the TV series FAME. She played the tall beautiful cellist Julie Miller and the role gave her the ability to show off her dancing and singing skills. The same year, Lori was cast in the TV Movie - BORN BEAUTIFUL. Her performance won her a Silver Halo Award.
Lori Singer's breakout film was FOOTLOOSE in 1984. She beat out Madonna for the part.
In 1985, Lori Singer was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for the Best Female Lead in TROUBLE IN MIND.
Singer currently lives in Manhattan with her son. One of her trademarks, when she signs an autograph, she signs "Stay Footloose".
