About Lily Tomlin (1939 – )
Lily Tomlin was born on September 1, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan.

Mary Jean Tomlin is Lily Tomlin's birth name.

Tomlin created a variety of comic personas on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Two of her most famous are Ernestine the phone operator and Edith-Ann, the philosophical five-year-old.

Lily Tomlin played the mother of a hearing-impaired child in Robert Altman's epic Nashville in 1975. The role was her film debut, and earned her an Oscar nomination.

In 1977, Lily Tomlin was listed as one of twelve Promising New Actors in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 29.

Tomlin starred with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda in the hit movie Nine To Five, in 1980.

Tomlin was also a regular on The Music Scene and played the part of Kay Carter-Shepley in Murphy Brown.

Tomlin provided the voice of Ms. Valerie Frizzle, the bus driver on the children's series The Magic School Bus.
