John Carradine was born on February 5,
1906 in New York, New York.

Sometimes John Carradine was creditied
as John Peter Richmond or Peter Richmond. His birth name
is Richmond Reed Carradine, but his friends and colleges
called him The Bard of Boulevard and The Voice.
Making his acting debut in 1925, John
Carradine was in the New Orleans Thearre in CAMILLE. He
debuted in the film TOL'ABLE DAVID (1930).
In the 1940s, John Carradine worked with
Universal horror films, playing Dracula in HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN
and HOUSE OF DRACULA. Just starting out John Carradine
applied as scenic designer to Cecil B. DeMille, who rejected
his designs but gave him voice work in several films.
John Carradine always ranked his performance in BLUEBEARD
in 1944, high among his career favorites.
In 2003 John Carradine was inducted into
the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy
and Western Heritage Museum.
The voice of the Great Owl from THE SECRET
OF NIMH in 1982 was none other than John Carradine.
