About James Spader (1960 – )

James Todd Spader was born on February 7, 1960, in Boston Massachusetts.

Sometimes James Spader is credited as Jimmy Spader, and is often cast to play eccentric characters; sometimes odd heroes, but mostly sleazy, sneaky villains.

In 1981, James Spader made his first feature debut in ENDLESS LOVE.

The role that really showed James Spader was able to deliver a great performance as a drug dealer in the 1987 film, LESS THAN ZERO.

In 1989, James Spader had a superb performance in SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE. This performance earned him a Best Actor Cannes Festival Award, while opening more doors to meatier roles for James as well.

Co-starring with Susan Sarandon, James Spader played a preppie who falls for Sarandon in the 1990 film, WHITE PALACE.

Playing opposite Rob Lowe as a psycho, James Spader played a businessman in the 1990 film, BAD INFLUENCE.

James Spader is best known for his role as the colorful attorney Alan Shore on the 1997 television series, THE PRACTICE, and its 2004 spin-off, BOSTON LEAGAL. Spader won two Primetime Emmys for playing the same character on each of these series. James made history becoming the first person to win an Emmy for two different series.

James Spader was nominated for a BEST ACTOR Golden Globe for his performance on BOSTON LEAGAL.

James Spader portrayed the character, Robert California, on the TV series, THE OFFICE;(2011-2012).

James Spader was nominated for two Golden Globes for his performances on the TV drama, THE BLACKLIST;(2013-2015).

James Spader and Victoria Spader were married in 1987. They had two children together, Sebastian;(b. 1989) and Elijah;(b. 1992). They divorced in 2004. Victoria Spader was the set decorator for SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE.

James Spader is not work-driven, but sees the value of having other interests that are more meaningful to him. He explains in an interview, "If I don't need the money, I don't work. I'm going to spend time with my family and friends, and I'm going to travel and read and listen to music and try to learn a little bit more about how to be a human being, as opposed to learning how to be somebody else. I don't mind going to somebody and saying, "Okay, this is how much money I need to pay my bills for the next six months. If you pay me that, I'll do the film."
