Heather O'Rourke was born on December 27, 1975 in San Diego, California. Her fraternal twin had died in utero. Heather was more fortunate, living for twelve years, much loved by her family, friends and fans. Heather passed away on February 1, 1988 in San Diego, California from cardiopulmonary arrest.
Tammy O'Rourke is Heather O'Rourke's sister, Tammy had an uncredited role in the 1982 musical, ANNIE, playing one of the Dancer/Orphans.
Her beautiful face and acting ability surfaced early. Starting at the young age of 3, Heather O'Rourke was in several commercials for companies like Mattel and McDonalds.
Playing Carol Anne Freeling, Heather O'Rourke became a recognized child actress in the trilogy of POLTERGEIST films, starting with the 1982 original film, POLTERGEIST. "They're here" was the line that made her a star in this film, that has been one of the best one liners ever. This also ranked #69 on CBS TV special AFI'S TOP 100 Movie Quotes.
According to Cinefantastique in July 1988 Heather O'Rourke had one scene that really scared her in the 1982 movie POLTERGEIST. Steven Spielberg stopped everything to comfort young O'Rourke telling her she would not have to do that scene again. The scene that scared her so bad was when she had to hold onto the headboard, while a wind machine blew toys into the closet behind her.
In between her films, Heather was at the front of the line for guest star child actress roles in television series. Heather had recurring roles on episodes on three TV series: HAPPY DAYS, WEBSTER, and THE NEW LEAVE IT TO BEAVER. She also was a guest star on FANTASY ISLAND, CHIPS, and OUR HOUSE.
Other than being a huge star, Heather O'Rourke was very proud of her 1985 class election for student body president of her 5th grade.
POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE came along in 1986. While Heather was made a star in the 1982 film Poltergeist, her riveting performance in POLTERGEIST 2 cemented her reputation for her acting talent.
Her last movie was POLTERGEIST III, in 1988, but she didn't make it to the premiere. Sadly Heather O'Rourke passed away while on a break from filming POLTERGEIST III, but a blonde stand in was used to complete the movie. This was O'Rourke's final movie, it was also dedicated to her memory.
To everyone's shock, Heather O'Rourke suffered cardiac arrest at the young age of 12. Some people say it was due to a misdiagnosis of an illness and others say it was the curse of the POLTERGEIST series.
Heather's deadly health issues that took her life had started like flu symptoms in 1988. it wasn't the flue though, but symptoms of congenital intestinal stenosis (blockage), which ultimately caused her heart attack. If she would've gotten proper diagnosis, she may be alive today.
Some think that the POLTERGEIST films have a curse attached to thm. Actor Lou Perryman, who playeda construction worker in the first film, was murdered by a deranged man on April 1, 2009.
