LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (Drama/Thriller)

Forest Whitaker won his Oscar for playing the infamous dictator of Uganda, Idi Amin.

About Forest Whitaker (1961 – )

Forest Whitaker was born on July 15, 1961 in Longview, Texas and moved with his family to Los Angeles, four years later.

Whitaker has a large screen presence which matches his build of 6'2" and 220 lbs. He delivers performances of texture and intensity, accentuated by his unusual droopy eyelid, which adds a indefinable yet expressive element to his film personas.

Forest is married to Keisha Whitaker, with whom he has three children. He is the brother of actors Damon Whitaker and Kenn Whitaker.

In 1982, Forest Whitaker debuted on-screen in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. In a single scene performance, Forest Whitaker played a hustler who out-hustles Paul Newman in THE COLOR OF MONEY in 1986.

His breakout role came in 1988, when Clint Eastwood cast Whitaker in the role of jazz great Charlie Parker in the critically acclaimed film, BIRD, for which Forest Whitaker won a Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. He played an IRA prisoner and boyfriend of the cross-dressing love interest in THE CRYING GAME.

For his portrayal of the political monster, Idi Amin, in The LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, he won an Academy Award in 1997. For that same role, he also received the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, and many critical accolades.

In Jim Jarmush's GHOST DOG, Forest plays a hit man, who fancies himself a modern day samurai, and is targeted for death by the mob.

He has produced 14 shows, mainly for television. The TV movie STRAPPED [1993], Forest Whitaker's directing debut, tells a story of urban violence. His television film DOOR TO DOOR won an Emmy for Outstanding Movie. He also has directed 5 films, including the 1995 hit WAITING TO EXHALE.
