Elisabeth Shue was born on October 6, 1963 in Wilmington,
Delaware.
Elisabeth is sometimes creditied as Lisa Shue.
In 1984, Elisabeth Shue landed a role in THE KARATE KID as
the the onscreen girlfriend of Ralph Macchio. Elisabeth went
back to school in 2000, and Graduated from Harvard University
8 June 2000, with a degree in Political Science. Shue was
one semester short of earning her degree, when she dropped
out to pursue her career 15 years ago.
December 2002 Elisabeth Shue co-stared with Peter Sarsgaard
in the Off-Broadway Revival of BURN THIS by Lanford Wilson.
Shue's hyperkinetic lip-synching of "And Then He Kissed Me,"
performed under the opening credits of ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING
(1987), is Elisabeth's most memorable role as the wholesome,
girl-next-door-pretty blonde. Elisabeth Shue became a common
sight in ads for Burger King, DeBeers diamonds, and Hellman's
mayonnaise, this is how she earned extra money during her
college years.
In 1995 Elisabeth Shue took a chance on a low-budget, high-risk
project entitled, LEAVING LAS VEGAS by Mike Figgis. Her gutsy
portrayal of a prostitute mixed up with a suicidal alcoholic
paid off as she was recognized with a Best Actress nomination
at the Academy Awards that year.
To date Elisabeth has taken a backseat to many of her male
costars as playing the girlfirend or love intrest: She was
Ralph Macchio's romantic interest in THE KARATE KID, Tom Cruise's
in COCKTAIL, and Michael J. Fox's in BACK TO THE FUTURE PART
II and PART III.
