ABOUT DIANNE WIEST (1948 - )
After doing stage work, Dianne Wiest made her screen
debut in 1980. However, Wiest didn't really grab the critic's
attention until her role as a 1930's hooker in Woody
Allen's THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO.
Dianne Wiest won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the 1986 movie, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, the story of a middle aged woman, Hannah and her sisters who become remantically entangled with her current husband and ex-husband. Wiest plays the sisters who is wooed by the ex.
Dianne Wiest received a Supporting Actress
nomination for her 1989 role as a sister of the Dad, played by Steve Martin in PARENTHOOD.
In 1994, Dianne Wiest played a grand dame of the theater in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, a story of a theater production and a gangster, with John Cusack and Jennifer Tilley. She received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
In 1996 comedy THE BIRD CAGE, the Mike Nichols remake of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Wiest plays the wife of cabaret owner Gene Hackman.
Dianne Wiest continues to work in films and on television.
