About Connie Nielsen (1965 –)

Connie Nielsen was born on July 3, 1965, in Elling, Frederikshavn, Denmark.

Sometimes Connie Nielsen is creditied as Connie Inge-Lise Nielsen, which is her birth name.

A trained singer and dancer, Connie Nielsen is also fluent in English, German, Danish, Swedish, French and Italian.

Connie Nielsen received a Best Actress Award from the Empire Awards for her role in GLADIATOR.

For Connie Nielsen's role in THE HUNTED, she underwent agent training with the FBI in Portland, and talked with female FBI agents in Los Angeles. Neilsen's gun training with the FBI, as well as the body language of taking charge in a tense situation, was something she also drew on in portraying her character, military investigator, Julia Osborne, in BASIC. She held her own with mega-stars John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.

In the 2002 movie, ONE HOUR PHOTO, Connie Nielsen played a 'burb mom, menaced by the obseesed Robin Williams.

In 2004, Nielsen starred in the Susanne Bier movie, BROTHERS, as a wife.

In 2006, Connie Nielsen played in six episodes of LAW & ORDER, SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT as Detective Dani Back.

Nielsen also played in BOSS as Merith Kane, wife in a marriage of convenience to the Mayor of Chicago in 2006.

Nielsen has had her share of bland roles and commented, "I find the female roles out there very cliché. If we are limited to being only lovers or mothers, we are limiting ourselves."

Nielsen commented on bad writing in Hollywood.  "Often when you get a really good script, and you receive the new pages, you see that the entire thing has been dumbed down. Films in the '30s and '40s, that were huge blockbusters, were very sophisticated in their language, and the ideas they brought. There were no questions about whether the audience would get it or not."

"Today there is a certain fear, or horror, that the audience won't understand. They underestimate the audience very often. And that is because, when you look at the box-office to see that total braindead films make lots of money, then that's what the cash machine is telling you to do. In other words: More braindead, more money!"
