About Christopher Reeve (1952 – 2004)

Christopher Reeve was an American leading man born in New York City. On October 10, 2004 he passed away in Mount Kisco, New York from heart failure.

On May 27, 1995, Christopher was paralyzed from a horseback riding accident, that ended his acting career. However, he went on to write a book, and was a positive role model for other people, suffering from being paralyzed. He had a positive attitude until his death.

The other student was Robin Williams. At Juilliard, Christopher Reeve was roommates with Williams. They remained close friends for the remainder of Reeve's life.

In 1976, Christopher Reeve made his Broadway debut, opposite Katharine Hepburn, in A MATTER OF GRAVITY.

For the role of Superman, Christopher Reeve had to gain 30 pounds. His weight trainer for SUPERMAN in 1978 was British weight lifting champion David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the STAR WARS films.

Christopher Reeve said he based his portrayal of Clark Kent on a younger Cary Grant.

One of the last characters Reeve played before his riding accident was a paralyzed police officer, in the film ABOVE SUSPICION, in 1995.

Christopher Reeve's autobiography, Still Me was a best seller. He was working on another book at the time of his death.
