Cathy Moriarity was born on November 29, 1960 in the Bronx,
New York.
Martin Scorsese counted on the fact that this young, striking
blonde had no acting training when he cast her to play prizefighter
Jake LaMotta's ravishing and much-abused wife. In 1980 Cathy
Moriarity won an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress
for her performance as Vikki, in RAGING BULL.
In 1981 Cathy Moriarity played a suburban seductress in NEIGHBORS,
which did not do so well at the box office after being trounced
by critics.
Plagued by bad advice, Moriarty dropped out of sight for
several years. Making a come back, Cathy took a low-key return
to the screen in the curious thriller WHITE OF THE EYE (1987).
More recently Cathy Moriarity has landed better parts in
higher-profile films as SOAPDISH, as a predatory, transsexual
soap opera star. In 1993 Moriarity was in MATINEE, as flamboyant
producer John Goodman's wry leading lady and companion.
Moriarity owns a fashionable pizzeria in Beverly Hills.
