Brooke Shields in THE BLUE LAGOON.

About Brooke Shields (1965 –)

Brooke Shields was born on May 31, 1965, in New York, New York.

In 1978, at the age of 12, she played a child prostitute in the film PRETTY BABY. The role brought Brooke Shields much attention, as well as controversy.

Her next film was THE BLUE LAGOON; the story of two children stranded on a tropical island.

Brooke was named one of the most glamorous women of all time by Harper's Bazaar magazine, in 2004. Other women on the list included Coco Chanel, Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Nicole Kidman.

In 1976, Brooke Shields was the youngest guest star on the hit series, THE MUPPET SHOW.

Taking a hard look at herself, Brooke Shields put her feelings down on paper for a book, "Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression." It was a huge success, making it to number 6 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

In 2005, Brooke Shields was named one of the 20th Century's 100 most beautiful women in the British magazine, Harpers & Queen. Other stars on the list included Vivien Leigh, Lauren Bacall, Josephine Baker, and Catherine Deneuve.

By the time Brooke Shields was sixteen years old, she was already famous as a model. She made it to the cover of every major fashion magazine including Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, Mademoiselle, Seventeen, and Vogue. From 1980 to 1987, Shields graced the cover of American Vogue 13 times. She was also the youngest model ever to make it onto the cover of Cosmopolitan.

She has also graced the covers or jacket sleeves of several books, including: "Helene"; by John Bowers, "I Love Ice Cream"; by Carolyn Vosburg Hall, and the hardcover version of the novel, "Evalore"; by Eva Jones. Copies of the novel with the dust jacket intact are collectibles.

Elsie Moore, who is Brooke Shields great-grandmother, was the sister of Glenn Close's grandfather.
