Brian Cox was born on June 1, 1946 in Dundee, Scotland.
Brian Cox and his son Alan Cox, have worked together in the
film YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES in 1985.
In 1986 Brian Cox had his first big break as Dr. Hannibal
Lector in MANHUNTER. He was the first actor to portray Dr.
Hannibal Lecter on the silver screen. Anthony Hopkins and Brian Cox
have a thing or two in common. They have both played Titus
Andronicus, and both of them played King Lear while the other
was simultaneously playing Hannibal Lecter.
In 1987 Brian Cox was awarded the London Critics Circle Theatre
Award (Drama Theatre Award) for Best Actor for his performances
in THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, TITUS ANDRONICUS, and FASHION.
This was not his first time nor will be be his last, in 1984
he also was awarded for RAT IN THE SKULL and STRANGE INTERLUDE.
On the 2002 New Year's Eve Honours List, Brian Cox was awarded
the C.B.E. (Commander of the order of the British Empire).
Brian Cox has had a few roles playing a government official
in which another actor has amnesia but later discovers they
are secret government assasins: THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT (1996)
where the amnesia victim is actress Geena Davis, THE BOURNE
ITENTITY (2002) with Matt Damon having the amnesia, and also
X2 (2003) where the victim is played by Hugh Jackman.
Throughout the 90s Brian Cox appeared in nearly 20 motion
pictures and television shows, as well as making numerous
TV guest appearances. For Best Actor, Brian Cox was awarded
the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1985 for the New Play
for RAT IN A SKULL, and then again in 1989 for the revival
of TITUS ANDRONICUS.
