Benjamin Geza Affleck was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley,
California.
As a child however, he spent his youth romping through the
town of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ben is the brother of rising
actor Casey Affleck, whose acting passion perhaps arose as
a result of Ben's own acting bug. As a young child Ben Affleck
appeared in a Burger King commercial, a humble start to what
would become a very credible career. By the age of eight Affleck
landed his first acting job for a PBS mini-series, "The
Voyage of the Mimi", where he met what would become life-long
friend Matt Damon. Together the two would act, play little
league, and eventually write the masterpiece known as "Good
Will Hunting".
Prior to "Good Will Hunting", however, Affleck
would make his first major motion picture debut in the satirical
teen comedy "Dazed and Confused" (1993).Affleck would
then appear in several Kevin Smith films, building his resume
with Sundance recognized performances in "Mallrats"
(1995) and "Chasing Amy" (1997).
But in 1997 Kevin Smith would help Miramax pick up Affleck
and Damon's script for "Good Will Hunting", a script
contrived entirely from their own genius, which would become
a box office smash, a multi Oscar-nominated and Oscar winning
film, and the catalyst for both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's
star-status careers. In fact, of its nine nominations and
two wins, "Hunting" won the Oscar for best screenplay;
a tribute to the duo's hidden talent for the written word.
Following "Hunting"'s success, Affleck would appear
in later blockbusters such as 1998's "Armageddon"
and "Shakespeare in Love", and in 2001's "Pearl
Harbor".
On June 29, 2005 Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner.
