Arthur Hill was born August 1, 1922 in Melfort,
Saskatchewan, Canada.
In his youth Hill attended the University
of British Columbia and fine-tuned his acting studies in
Seattle.
In 1948 a 26 year old Arthur Hill went to
England to practice his acting upon the British Stage, acting
for several different companies. Hill also obtained several
small British film roles during his theatre career.
In the 1950's, however, Hill made his way
to Broadway where he impressed the critics; winning both
a New York and Tony award for Best Actor (Dramatic) for
his performance as George in the production of "Who's
Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (1962).
After his successful performance he began
to land film roles. Typically Arthur Hill was cast as the
aged, mild-mannered business professional, but occasionally
he got to play a villain. His role in his own series, "Owen
Marshall: Counselor at Law" (1971) earned Arthur Hill
star status.
