Antonio Banderas was born on August 10, 1960 in Malaga, Spain.
Although he was given the birth name of José Antonio Domínguez
Bandera, he has since chosen to go by Antonio Banderas.
During the 1980's while residing in Madrid, Antonio starred
in several of Pedro Almodovar's films. Antonio's first American
film was not until 1992 when he starred in "The
Mambo Kings". Since his arrival in America Antonio has
divorced his former Spanish wife. In 1996 he got married
to actress Melanie Griffith, whom he met on the set of "Two
Much". Together the two raise their daughter Stella
del Carmen in Hollywood, CA.
Somewhat of a risk taker and entrepreneurial spirit, Banderas
has invested much of his earnings in the marketing of Andalusian
products that he promotes himself both overseas and in America.
Aside from a rather lengthy list of film credits including
"The Mask of Zorro" and "Evita", Banderas
has also taken a stab at animated films, starring as the voice
of Puss in Boots in the blockbuster "Shrek 2". What's
more, Banderas has extended his career into the corners of
Broadway via the revival of "Nine, The Musical",
for which he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor
(Musical) in 2003.
In 1995 Antonio Banderas was chosen by Empire magazine as
one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (#24). Additionally
Antonio Banderas was chosen by People (USA) magazine as one
of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1996.
