Agnes Moorehead was born on December 6, 1900 in Clinton, Massachusetts.
On April 30, 1974 Agnes Moorehead passed away in Rochester,
Minnesota from lung cancer. She was 74.
Moorehead's limousine is displayed at the Peterson Automotive
Museum in Los Angeles.
In the 1930s Moorehead started working for dramatic radio;
often impersonating Eleanor Roosevelt on "The March of
Time". She also portrayed the first Margot Lane on Mutual
Radio's "The Shadow"(1937-1939). Orson Welles recruited
Agnes Moorehead for his Mercury Theater in the late 1930s. She
would later join him in Hollywood for the film "Citizen
Kane" in 1941.
Best known for her role as "mother witch" Endora
for Nickelodeon's famous TV series "Bewitched" (1964-72),
Moorehead initially turned the role down but reconsidered after
Elizabeth Montgomery personally requested her participation.
Moorehead's performance in 1942's "The Magnificent Ambersons"
was absolutely splendid; it was the first of four Oscar nominations
Moorehead would receive throughout her career. Her other nominations
were for performances in 1944's "Mrs. Parkington",
1948's "Johnny Belinda", and 1965's "Hush, Sweet
Charlotte". During the 1948 Academy Award show Agnes Moorehead
was the first woman to co-host; she did so alongside Dick Powell.
Agnes Moorehead's favorite color was purple eventually earning
her the nickname "Lavender Lady".
Agnes Moorehead later starred in the ill-fated film "Conquerer"
in 1956. The film was shot previously in 1954 in the Nevada
desert nearby U.S. government nuclear testing facilities. It
was believed the filming had exposed the cast to deadly carcinogens
after several actors from the film later died of cancer; including
John Wayne, Dick Powell, Susan Hayward, and Perdro Armendariz,
