Woody Allen excelled as Alvy Singer in ANNIE
HALL and as Miles Monroe in SLEEPER. Short,
ethnic, nervous, and bespectacled, Woody Allen was a truly unusual
1970's icon/sex symbol.
His defining role was as a Jewish comic/writer
in ANNIE HALL.
Notable films include: SLEEPER,
LOVE AND DEATH,
PLAY IT AGAIN,
SAM, CRIMES
AND MISDEMEANORS, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, THE CURSE OF THE
JADE SCORPION, and HOLLYWOOD ENDING.
Woody Allen was romantically involved with many
of his leading ladies, including Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow.
Rarely a big moneymaker, Allen's usually well regarded films were
the polished gems in studio United Artists crown.
In the later part of his life, the line between
Allen's screen character and real self became particularly blurred.
Woody's newest credits include ANYTHING ELSE
and MELINDA AND MELINDA.
